Who we are

Creative Production Manager
Matthew Fallon

If you could replace a limb with a HXR-NX5P Solid State Camcorder Matt would offer his right arm for the experimental surgery. Not just anyone could adjust to this drastic physical change; however, Matt would not only adjust but head back to the Philippines to deliver AV lectures at Bicol University. It was there that he developed his love of sisig and lumpia and penchant for scooter crash stories. A documentary Matt produced on international development in the Asia Pacific region was picked up by 10. Now The Edge has this super cool Asia Pacific guru right arm camcorder wielding guy as its own Creative Production Manager.

General Manager
Annika Shelley

Annika’s professional background in psychology and precinct operations makes her a formidable force to contend with: no one else could analyse your budget and personality simultaneously! With the mix of crazy creative personalities at The Edge, we’re sure these powers will be exercised regularly. Wandering spaces at The Edge with a violin case under one arm, she is not only interested in finances or venue operations; she will (on special request only) bow the No.12: Allegro con fuoco in C minor for you and selected special guests.

Communications Coordinator (Digital)
Brett Sirianni

Brett’s visual and interactive design skills nearly outshine his skills in pulling into closout barrels. If you’re able to get him off the topic of web design he will dump a truck load of information about a whole range of things like vintage custom rides, T shirts, and independent zines. Brett’s address for the past six years was Billabong where he clearly gained an overbearing obsession with surfboards and the art on and of them. We all live in hope that one day he lives his dream of surfing the islands around Indonesia.

Communications Coordinator
Sarah Jansen

One could mistake Sarah for a passionate youth arts enthusiast previously kicking around at Vibewire Youth Inc and TINA. However we here at The Edge have discovered her true passion: coffee. Roasting, brewing, grinding and percolating techniques are fervently discussed and argued by Sarah and The Edge team. You can count on Sarah to fb you and entrance you with her world of social media junkies. As The Edge’s Master of Facebook, Sarah guarantees loads of opportunities to chat and post on The Edge and connect with other Edge friends and fans.

Coordinator Visitor Services and Volunteers
Amy Piekkala-Fletcher

Amy is an interesting character and has both feet firmly planted in the world of events. Although those feet were doing more than the usual when she organised the World Dance Alliance Global Summit in 2008 at QPAC and QUT; we’re certain she would have been jiving, shimmying and sashaying all over Brisbane. Amy entertains us all by smashing out the big band tunes on her white piano (The Edge believes she channels Liberaces) and cruises around South Brisbane in her precious 1986 Toyota Celica with a custom pearl paint job and 18-inch mags. Amy feels at home at The Edge where her dark obsession for wielding a Nintendo Wii cross bow is embraced by others. Don’t be fooled by her Sunshine Coast tan, her family hails from Finland! We would not recommend saying Minä en todella pidä teidän autostanne to a Finnish person wielding a Nintendo Wii cross bow, it hurts.

Damien De Groot
Technical production and Venue Coordinator

The next time you hear the Baywatch theme song, think of Damien De Groot. With his experience in film production for commercials and feature films and his commitment to guarding lives at Wet’n’Wild on the Gold Coast he would have been a big contender as the new head honcho of the beach. Aside from these totally mesmerising skills, Damien is our AV guru. He came to The Edge after rolling with the likes of some mega stars big enough to ditch the idea of last names like Kylie and Sting just to name drop a couple. Working in Dubai, he felt at home mingling with his superstar buddies on the golf course and immerse himself in AV for huge no-holds-barred events.

Mick Byrne
Project Officer

Mick loves to kick around with older kids so much that he has been immersed in the youth arts scene in Queensland for the last ten years. As well as pedalling around Teneriffe on a pimped-out, gunmetal grey cruiser he dedicates his time to combing his carefully manicured grown man-beard and, more importantly, creating opportunities for creative young people to be inspired, develop their craft and access.

‘Mick’ should be considered as a new entry in the English dictionary meaning ‘passionate, bearded youth arts worker who rolls with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and artistic interests’.
