Meet the VSAs – Will

The VSAs are the amazing folk who greet you at the service desk, provide you with caffeine and support you in all your adventures through time and space here at the Edge. They are essentially humble super humans without whom this place could not run. We thought you might enjoy finding out more about these mysterious creatures, so we will be quizzing them and introducing them to you over the next little while.

My favourite thing about the Edge is…
My favourite thing about The Edge the people I work with. I’ve made a lot of close friends working here, and everyone is so interested in different forms of creative arts and technology. I’m able to source so much feedback and help on my own creative projects. It really is a great space to be if you’re trying to make something happen.

I am listening to…
I am listening to a range of music. I enjoy Funk and Metal as well as a select sample of Hip Hop. Currently I’m listening to a lot from a group called The Motet, they do some great modern funk music with really hooky lyrics. It’s excellent inspiration for lyric/vocal melody writing for my own band as our singer sounds similar to Lyle Divinsky. I also indulge in Lazarus A.D. and Vulfpeck on the frequent. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m a huge RHCP/John Frusciante fan, so that’s always on the playlist as well.

I am reading…
I’m currently reading the Children of Hurin by JRR Tolkien. It’s a favourite of mine. I’m deeply interested in the tales from the First Age of Middle Earth. Some of my favourites include; Of Beren and Luthien and Of the Fifth Battle: Nirnaeth Arnoediad.

In my spare time I like to…
In my spare time I like to play video games, clean the house and listen to lots of music. I’m playing Fortnite with my brother a lot recently (PC, of course). I’m also getting really into Kung Fu movies like IP Man and Birth of the Dragon, for example. Cleaning is just therapeutic. I’m a big fan of the idea that if I place something somewhere in my house, then that’s where it belongs. I get a strange sense of harmony from that.

If I could have a superpower it would be…
If I could have a superpower, it would be perfect memory recall. I’d love to be able to learn such practical skills quickly. Music, math, programming. Think about being perfect at anything after a few tries. If I can add perfect muscle memory onto that, it’s the ultimate practical power.

Beach or mountain?
If I had to choose between beach and mountain.. I’m not particularly outdoorsy to begin with but I’m a terrible swimmer and I’m afraid of sharks so I’ll choose mountain.

Chocolate or vanilla?
When choosing between chocolate or Vanilla, one must always consider versatility. Chocolate cannot be mixed with other flavours as seamlessly. Go with Vanilla, you can add anything you want to that.

Crocodile or shark?
This question may have been answered already. I’m scared of sharks but I do think they’re a cooler animal.
Crocodiles live in more obvious areas, or at least, people are more aware of crocodiles. Since there’s no further context to this question I’ll say shark because they’re cool. But I don’t want to be near it.

Pineapple on pizza?
Pineapple on a pizza? Of course, what else are you going to do with the pineapple, eat it on it’s own? Don’t make me laugh.

Anything else you want to tell us?
I have a chronic case of RBF (Google it). 99% of the time I’m nowhere near as grumpy as I look, you can talk to me.

Come talk to me about…
Come talk to me about music. I work in Ableton a lot so if you’ve got any questions about that, I’m happy to help.

I started working at the Edge…
I started working at the Edge 6 months ago

My favourite thing about the Edge is
My favorite thing at work is the smile I get after a patron takes the first sip of the coffee I’ve made them.

I am reading…
I’m currently reading ‘Mythos’ – Stories of the Greek Gods as told by Stephen Fry and listening to the audio books of J.D Robb’s ‘In Death’ series. I read quite a lot and but also am a regular movie goer and recently watched ‘Ready Player One’ (pretty good, but the book was better).

In my spare time I like to…
In my off time I run the Pratchett Partisans social group, am involved in cosplay, Steampunk and reenacting, so I often have a costume, accessory, or piece of jewelry that I am creating or altering.

If i could live anywhere it would be…
If I could live anywhere, it would be modern day London and if I could visit anywhere/ anywhen it would be 1880s London. Even with my love for historical times, I don’t think I’d like to stay there for my whole life.

Chocolate or vanilla? Pineapple on pizza?
I’m a person who prefers a good vanilla bean ice cream over boring chocolate and says yes to pineapple on pizza

What is your karaoke song?
I would pick either ‘Islands in the Stream’ or ‘Ice, Ice, Baby’ as my karaoke song

Come talk to me about…
If you love to learn, explore and create, come talk to me about the ways he Edge can help you to get started in a new project, discover a new skill and meet ‘your’ people.
