DEMO-LITION DERBY: Record a Song at the Edge!
2pm Saturday 27 March 2010
Who: you and a sound technician
What: your song on a CD
Cost: FREE
If you have ever
wanted to make a CD but don’t have the know-how or the gear, The Edge is the place for you. As the State Library’s new centre for creativity and experimentation, The Edge is equipped with a recording studio and it’s ready for you and your music.
So on Saturday 27 March, come along to our first Demo-lition Derby and be a part of it.
What you need to do is:
- Come along at 2pm and book a recording session with one of our Visitor Services Officers at The Edge reception. There are only eight sessions available per Derby so get in quick to avoid disappointment. (All sessions booked on a first-come first-served basis.)
- At the designated time, you’ll get 15 minutes in the studio to perform your song. We can only do basic recording for duos or solo artists at this point. You can bring anything with you that produces sound acoustically—an acoustic guitar, a keyboard with a built-in speaker, a ukulele, your voice—you name it.
- Play your song and we’ll record it.
- We’ll then burn you a CD.
- Take your demo and start gigging, get reviewed or put it online.
Any questions, email Catalyst in charge Ian Rogers.
Important things to note:
- All recordings made at Demo-lition Derby fall under an Attribution-Share Alike Creative Commons licence. That means you 100% own your recording and your song, but the recording is stored with us so that others can play with it and remix it—as long as they give you credit. This is part of our policy at The Edge to encourage collaboration and experimentation.
- A member of The Edge team will be recording your work, but not producing it. So make sure you have your song finished and you know exactly what you’re going to be playing/singing in the studio before you arrive.
Demo-lition Derbys will be held every month so keep an eye on the calendar and sign up for enews to stay in the loop.
