WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Session 1: 5.30pm- 7:30pm 22/03/11

Culture and stereotypes:
We begin by breaking it down and mixing it up. This workshop will allow writers to examine cultural context and how it shapes script writing. It will also offer tools on how to write about diverse cultures with greater depth and believability.

Session 2: 5.30 pm- 7:30pm 29/03/11

Character and comedy:
Is comedy about funny people in everyday situations or everyday people in funny situations? This workshop offers a range of entry points and approaches for how to develop comic characters.

Session 3: 3.30pm- 7:30pm 2/04/11

Structure, frames and repositioning:
Do diverse subjects fit into the current forms of comedy dominating Aussie culture? In this workshop you will learn the rules of comedy structure and frames in order to break bend, expand and blow them up.

Session 4: 5.30pm- 7:30pm 5/04/11
In this session we’re going to film some comedy gold!

Session 5: 5.30pm- 7:30pm 12/04/11
In this session we’re going to film some MORE comedy gold!

Session 6: 5:30-7:30pm 19/04/11
This class will be a showing of a rough cut of a comic scene.
