Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of John Cage.
John Cage is widely considered one of the 20th century’s most influential. composers and as part of worldwide celebrations commemorating his centennial in 2012, the Judith Wright Centre has partnered with Brisbane’s own Clocked Out to present a three-night festival exploring the many facets of this unique artist’s life and work.
The Cage in Us will feature a concert series interpreting some of Cage’s extraordinary chamber music, electronic music and multimedia works. There will also be a free event program comprising documentary footage and Artist Talks, as well as a set of ‘Music Circuses’ curated by Rebecca Clunn (exist), Vanessa Tomlinson and Joel Stern incorporating Cage-inspired installation, exhibition and performance. A multi-arts experience as inventive and as adventurous as the man himself.
“Art is sort of an experimental station in which one tries out living”
John Cage
“John Cage’s true legacy extends far beyond the world of contemporary classical music. After him, no one could look at a painting, a book, or a person without wondering how they might sound if you listened closely.”

The Urban Informatics Research Lab presents a guest seminar by Dr Laura Forlano, Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology.
Tuesday 13th March 2012, 12-2pm, D214, QUT Gardens Point Campus
Designers emphasize the importance of working together in face-to-face settings in order to brainstorm and prototype solutions. However, the tools that they use (including post-it notes, information panels and photographs) are often digitized during the design process and transformed into presentations, books or physical objects. Based on a year-long qualitative study of design collaboration, this presentation explains the ways in which digital technologies enable new ways of understanding materiality. In addition, this presentation explores the kinds of digital technologies that might support the work of designers.
