Meet the VSAs — Angelica

The VSAs are the amazing folk who greet you at the service desk, provide you with caffeine and support you in all your adventures through time and space here at State Library of Queensland, The Edge. They are essentially humble super humans without whom this place could not run. We thought you might enjoy finding out more about these mysterious creatures, so we will be quizzing them and introducing them to you over the next little while.

I started working at State Library, The Edge…

I started working at The Edge early in 2017

My favourite thing about State Library, The Edge is…

My favourite thing about The Edge is the diversity of the people using the space at any given time and the amount of interesting projects that everyone is working on.

I am making…

At the moment I am putting together a collection of clumsy, comical drawings to publish as a zine.

I am listening to…

I mostly listen to our local community radio station 4ZZZ, I always hear new, interesting music. Some of my favourite shows are Electric Crush, the Slubberdegullion show and Rusted Satellites — Paradigm Shift and IndigiBriz are pretty good too.

I am reading…

At the moment I am reading Social Justice and the City by David Harvey who is a professor of anthropology and geography, and a collection of plays by the Ancient Greek comic playwright Aristophanes, I just finished The Wasps which was pretty funny.

I am watching…

I don’t have a TV so I watch lot of ABC iView and SBS on Demand. I love catching up on 7:30 Report, Insiders and Four Corners and have recently gotten into Counterpart. I reckon we have a cracker of a national broadcaster. I also try to keep up with what is playing at the GOMA cinema; they always put together a great program of interesting films.

In my spare time I like to…

Cycle, draw, picnic, restore furniture, op-shop, nap.

Crocodile or shark?

Shark.

Pineapple on pizza?

Yeah, no worries.

What is your karaoke song?

I generally go for The Boys are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy or Hounds of Love by Kate Bush. For a particularly corny, nostalgic and shameless karaoke session with friends I might go for a ballad by the likes of Natalie Imbruglia, Vanessa Carlton, Nelly Furtado etc.. The less cool the better as far as I’m concerned.

Come talk to me about…

I’m always interested to hear about the creative and community projects people are working on at The Edge. If you’re stuck on something in the DML I have some experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and some CAD software, although I’m no expert, feel free to come talk to me about any issues you’re having and I’ll see if I can help.
