ARGs at The Edge
Blurring the boundaries between performance and play, Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) are the perfect platform for collaboration for gaming novices and masters alike. They are normally played in the real world and use online platforms to blur the boundaries between virtual and reality. You may remember Why So Serious, an ARG of extraordinary proportions that was played in the lead up to the release of the Batman film, The Dark Knight.
Head to The Edge for your chance to develop your own ARG. Get to know more about the genre at our Intro Night and get your hands dirty (figuratively speaking) in our ARG workshop series.
ARG Intro Night
Not quite sure what an ARG is? Join our down to earth experts as they talk you through the basics in preparation for our ARG workshop series. Special guest Anthony Mullins, Creative Director of Emmy Award winning entertainment company, Hoodlum will join local expert Deb Polson to give you the A to Z of ARGs.
Anthony Mullins is the Creative Director of Hoodlum, an Emmy and BAFTA award winning entertainment company based in Brisbane who have made ARG-like experiences for TV shows like Lost, Primeval, Spooks and the motion picture Salt. Hoodlum also co-produced the teen drama Slide which is currently screening on Fox 8.
Deb is the Director of Newish Media and has been an independent games designer for the last 15 years. Over that time she has conceived and implemented a heap of innovative games for community, education and commercial organisations so we know we are in good company. In fact Deb is just now finishing up her PhD on ARGs; you can get much more qualified than that!
When: 6-7:30pm, 14 Oct
Where: The Edge Auditorium
Cost: Free
Bookings: book.it@edgeqld.org.au
Alternate Reality Games (ARG) workshop
If games, writing or theatre are your thing, then level up and join us to create an Alternate Reality Game (ARG).
You don’t have to be a skilled games developer (or a games developer at all) to make an ARG. Basically, if you can write a story or come up with some real world game challenges (and have the smarts to create a fake email account) then you’re well on the way. The game (or games) you created in this series of four workshops will be put into play at a gaming day at The Edge in November.
Facilitator: Deb Polson
When: 5:30-8pm, 11, 18, 25 Oct and 1 Nov
Where: Lab 2, The Edge
Cost: Free
Bookings: book.it@edgeqld.org.au
