Venue Hire FAQs

What are The Edge’s opening hours?
The Edge is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 12–8pm and Sunday, 12–6pm. The venue is closed to the public on Monday, but available for venue hire. Reduced opening hours are set for public holidays. Events may also be held outside of opening hours (additional charges may apply). Access to The Edge for bump in and bump out of events is from 5.30am – 1.00am.

Does The Edge provide technical services?
Yes, The Edge provides an in-house technical production service using highly trained venue technicians who are familiar with the space and equipment. There is a list of equipment available for audio, vision, lighting and staging. Hirers may supply their own audio visual company to service their event, however, a Venue Technician must always be present from bump-in to bump-out. Our team is available to discuss options with each hirer.

What is the cost of holding an event at The Edge?
Quotes vary depending on the size and nature of each event and the resources required to prepare for the event. Venue hire includes cleaning and the use of standard equipment as negotiated with The Edge team. All other costs are additional including, but not limited to, technical, staffing and staging. Please submit an inquiry for a customised quote.

Does The Edge organise catering?
The Edge does not organise catering for events but can provide the State Library list of preferred caterers for you to liaise with directly. The selected caterer will need to liaise with The Edge staff for facilitation of power, tables, setup and pack down. Please note there is no equipped kitchen or heating facilities onsite so food must be prepared offsite and delivered to The Edge.

Do I need public liability insurance to hold an event?
The Edge has public liability insurance covering any incident that may lead to a damages claim for which The Edge and its staff are deemed responsible. This insurance does not extend to venue hirers for incidents that may be attributed to actions or arrangements made by the hirer. Therefore, we strongly recommended that you arrange your own insurance cover to minimise your exposure to risk. Public liability insurance is mandatory for performance and high risk events.

Does The Edge do rigging?
The Edge has a manual vertical lifter in The Auditorium, accessible to qualified Edge Venue Technicians. This can accommodate changes to lighting sets for your event. The lifter cannot be used by external AV suppliers. Labour charges apply for changes to the existing lighting state and any requested rigging.

Is security required for our event?
Security is required for all public events with alcohol. The Edge team will be able to provide options for your event if security is required.

Does The Edge handle ticket sales?
The Edge does not facilitate ticketing for events. Possible ticketing solutions include online systems such as EventBrite or local providers such as QTIX.

Can I bring my own technical equipment into The Edge?
Yes, but full details must be provided in advance to The Edge Venue and Technical Production Coordinator. All external equipment must also be tested and tagged.

Is The Edge an accessible building?
