STEP UP Project: STEAM room workshops

The STEAM Room: Science, tech, engineering, arts & maths workshops. As part of the STEP UP Project, the STEAM Room will be holding a series of FREE workshops for kids and young adults on Saturday July 18.

The purpose of STEAM is to incorporate the arts to build wider science-maths fluency, appreciation and enjoyment among school aged children. The STEAM Room is designed to be a fun and interaction experience for children and young adults in a variety of different age groups.

 

10am – 12pm: Design Thinking Workshop

  • Start the day by getting hands-on and designing a solution to a real world problem!
  • Years: 7 – 9
  • Presenters: Natalie Wright, Manager at SLQ Asia Pacific Design Library and Terry Deen, Art and Design teacher, Kelvin Grove State College
  • Cost: Free
  • Places: 20

12:30pm – 1:20pm: Tower of Density Workshop

  • Build your very own “tower of density” to take home out of everyday household liquids.
  • Years: 5 – 7
  • Presenters: Shisei Kitagawa, The University of Queensland
  • Cost: Free
  • Places: 20

2:30pm – 3:30pm: Can you float a boat? Workshop

  • Design and build your own boat to take home!
  • Years: 3 – 7
  • Presenters: Sara Jenke, Mikalya Agius and Laura Kane, The University of Queensland
  • Cost: Free
  • Places: 20
