Workshops

Workshops are a chance for you to create something new, whether it be a robot, a social media strategy or a pumping electro beat. You may be lstarting from scratch or applying old skills in a new way, but in either case you’ll have something unique to show for it at the end of a workshop.

Upcoming induction sessions are listed below. For a reminder when inductions open, sign up to The Edge eNews.

Designing for the Laser Cutter using Adobe Illustrator

May 7, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

You might have heard (or seen) that we have a Laser Cutter in the Fabrication Lab. This piece of machinery is one of our favourites; it’s fast, incredibly precise and can (with some imagination) create beautiful items, from jewellery to wallets, lampshades, custom boxes and business signage. In this 4 hour workshop we’ll show you how to use Adobe Illustrator (the software that talks to the Laser Cutter) to design objects that are then ready to be cut or etched…

Arduino 1: Intro to Physical Computing

May 11, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

This workshop will get you started with physical computing using the Arduino micro-controller platform. You’ll learn some of the basics of electronics theory, and prototype a series of simple circuits using solderless breadboards, to explore how a range of common electronic components operate. You’ll load example programs onto the Arduino micro-controller to control the components.  Requirements and prerequisites: No experience required! Participants must be over 16 years of age Enclosed, flat footwear must be worn at all times  Before you…

Arduino 2: Intermediate Physical Computing

May 20, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This workshop expands on the introductory workshop, and will get you started with coding your own programs for Arduino. You’ll draw on some tried-and-true project circuit designs that combine multiple sensors and actuators, and develop your own Arduino programs to customise the behaviour of the projects you build.  Requirements and prerequisites: Participants must be over 16 years of age Attendance of the introductory workshop or some experience with Arduino Enclosed, flat footwear must be worn at all times Before you…

Arduino 3: Advanced Physical Computing

May 28, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In this workshop, you’ll design your own electronics circuits to use with the Arduino micro-controller. You will learn advanced Arduino programming techniques, and how to apply these techniques to create unique interactive electronic projects including art pieces, toys or costumes. Requirements and prerequisites: Some knowledge of Arduino, or attendance of the previous workshops Participants must be over 16 years of age Enclosed, flat footwear must be worn at all times Before you book, please read our Short Courses FAQ. You’ll find answers…
